The story of the Green Room podcast begins in 2008. At the time, Vilmos was a touring standup comedian and part owner of the now closed Wits End Comedy Club in Westminister, Colorado, which is a part of the Denver metro area.

Podcasting had come out of its infancy and was beginning to get some traction. It was not yet as widely accepted as it is today, but there were podcasts that were becoming popular. The idea was to interview the headlining comedians in advance of their appearance at Wits End. The goal was to promote the shows and to give the listeners an idea of what it took to be a standup comedian.

Wits End Comedy Club was not considered an "A Room", which is where the most famous comedians would appear. The comedians that appeared at the club were the hard working and dedicated standup comics hoping to some day "make it". This further fed into what Vilmos thought the podcast should be about.

Vilmos who also had a background in web design and IT, designed the podcast from the ground up. He created the web site, oversaw the distribution, and did the booking and the production of the show. The original format of the show was to have one show a week to air on Tuesday. Since Vilmos was a touring standup himself it allowed him to get to what it was really like, showing the real side of comedy business.

Dates of importance to the show:

  • The first episode was April 22, 2008 with comedian Danny Villapando.
